“Why?”

“Because you have the most marvelous youth, and youth is the one thing worth having.”

SITUATIONS is proud to present Fresh Fruit, an exhibition of figurative works by artists under the age of 30, organized by Benjamin Tischer.

Visiting a long-practicing artist’s studio, a carefully crafted song-and-dance is on display. The artist is concise and correct and focused. Initially, they only show you new work. Yet, with enough interest, and the right amount of coaxing, there’s always more. Through flat files and conversations and old bits of press, a novel is divulged. The story of lifeasmaker is revealed.

This process is joyful seeing how one body of work leads to the next, leads to the next. Missteps, small triumphs, and forgotten tangents, an occasional masterpiece woven throughout decades.

Younger artists are trickier. There’s less to judge, only a couple of chapters in the story. And so, more often than not, there's hesitation, waiting to see how the plot develops before engaging the narrative.

This is a horrible mistake. This exhibition is a step towards correcting that inclination.

Here is talent, some known, others not. These artists deal with the body. Calcifying bodies, joyous bodies, rotting bodies, edible bodies, bodies in motion, bodies as landscape, politicized bodies, sexualized bodies, bodies made of light, and bodies barely held together.

Don’t talk, don’t talk, baby, don’t talk.
